Two days to the gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State, A Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa has disqualified the APC candidate, David Lyon.
Also disqualified is the petitioner, Senator Heineken  Lokpobiri.
The Federal High Court, the Port Harcourt Telegraph has learnt, held in its ruling that the APC did not adhere to it’s own guidelines.
According to the  Court, the APC guideline recommends that seven members are expected to serve on the body charged with responsibility for organizing primaries.
The court noted that in contravention of the guideline, the APC set up an 11-member body.
The court ruled that the entire exercise had been thrown out.
Recall that Lokpobiri had gone to court asking it to declare him winner of the primaries conducted in the State. Observers say the court however went beyond the relief sought by the petitioner.
It said that given the fact that the process was flawed, Lokpobiri could not emerge as a beneficiary of the process.
Many in Bayelsa State had been worried about what they describe as the Rivers State experience. That which they feared has just happened.
Meanwhile, papers are being put together for filing by the APC, according to what we have heard. The move we understand is intended to secure a stay of execution of the order of the Federal High Court.
