Senator Magnus Abe has reminded the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi that there are still stakeholders in the Rivers APC whose views must be sought on party related matters. “Minister cannot sit in his office and make pronouncement on a matter in which he and several other people have interest”, Abe noted. “People have gone to court, people have fought for their rights …the same thing that he did before, by creating confusion in the first place, he is determined to do”. Abe swore in a statement issued by his spokesman, Parry Saroh Benson that Amaechi would never conquer Rivers people if his intention is to prove to the world that he can do so. “If you want the support of Rivers people ask for it, work for it and you will get it. Nobody is against anybody. “We all left our homes to serve, improve our society and improve ourselves and to do that we need to work with other people “, the statement noted. What many see as a resumption of the hostilities between the serving Minister and his former crony is coming against the backdrop of efforts to close an ugly chapter in the party’s history, which denied the party of the chance to field candidates in the last elections. Strategists within the APC reckon that the best way forward lies in dismantling existing structures and building new ones. They say this was the position canvassed by Amaechi when he spoke on the issue of fresh congresses. Amaechi had urged party faithfuls to prepare for congresses, saying popular candidates would be allowed to emerge through the process in order to enhance the chances of the APC in 2023. That remark seen as hapless in some circles appears to be at the centre of a budding controversy. The Port Harcourt Telegraph placed calls to Engineer Bekinbo Dagogo Jack, George Tolofari, a former Commissioner in Amaechi’s administration and Dr Dakuku Peterside, the Director General of NIMASA for their reactions. Their phones were however not reachable.
