Leaders of the world’s most advanced economies are meeting to consider issues of mutual interest. The meeting is taking place at a renowned seaside resort in Southern France. The meeting is coming against the backdrop of growing animosities between Washington and its NATO allies, and an economic slow down which experts say, may result in a global recession. Ahead of the meeting, President Donald Trump had proposed the idea of returning Russia to the fold, but it does appear that his suggestion has not been well received. Other leaders of the G7 as well as their experts seem to be largely of the view that the idea is ill-timed. Observers blame the gloomy outlook of the global economy on the ongoing trade war between the United States and China. Despite growing concerns, the hostility between both countries has remained intractable, with the two sides threatening further action in pursuit of their interests. The markets are taking a serious bashing as a result of the war, with the Dow losing more than 600 points as investors get increasingly jittery. Similarly, oil prices have been affected by the gruesome use of tariffs, with Washington contemplating the prospect of tampering with the value of the dollar as a result of the fight with Beijing. Strategists are hoping the meeting would be able to address issues pertaining to global warming, the global economy and energing threats to global peace.
