Zaria gets 150 million litre water project A gigantic facility expected to supply portable water to Zaria and its environs in the Southern Kaduna area has been commissioned. The project built via a collaborative arrangement involving the Kaduna State Government as well as AFDB and the ISDB was commissioned Thursday by President Muhammadu Buhari. Speaking while commissioning the water scheme, President Buhari acknowledged the foresight of both the Kaduna State Government and its development partners in conceiving the project. He said it was gratifying to note that the State Government was determined to deal with developmental challenges facing the masses. Residents in Zaria have been facing acute water supply shortages coupled with worsening cases of political instability. But observers say the water project which would go into immediate operation, following its commission by the government, is expected to bring succour to the people. The said project which would pump 150 million litres of water daily marks the completion of the second phase, according to the execution plan put together by the Kaduna State Government. Governor Nasir El Rufai, obviously elated by the development, took to his Twitter handle to thank the President for taking time out to commission the project. He also thanked the African Development Bank and the IsDP for partnering with his administration to deliver on the project. “I most humbly thank President Muhammadu Buhari for commissioning Phase 2 of the Zaria Water Project today. We are grateful to the IsDB and the AfDB for financing large chunks of the project. I am delighted that we have worked together to restore public water supply to Zaria.”
